Angel's Story

Angel is 11 years old, and at the end of May 2026, everything changed almost overnight.

She suddenly developed diarrhea and, at the same time, started limping. I knew something wasn't right, so I took her to the veterinarian. They diagnosed her with hookworms, prescribed a dewormer, and gave her medication for the diarrhea. Unfortunately, only a few hours after taking the dewormer, she threw it back up.

A few days later, we returned to the veterinarian for another deworming treatment. When the diarrhea medication was finished, she was still having diarrhea, and I started wondering if the dewormer had really worked. Since it was the weekend, I called the veterinarian and was simply told to give her Pepto-Bismol until Monday. I wasn't comfortable with that answer, so I found another veterinary clinic that was open seven days a week.

Before our appointment, I called and asked if I should bring a stool sample. They told me not to because they would collect one at the office. When we arrived, they collected a sample but later told me it wasn't good enough to test. I remember thinking, I already had a sample at home, but you told me not to bring it. Instead of testing her, they gave Angel another dewormer. At that point, she had already gone through three deworming treatments, and I was becoming very frustrated.

I also couldn't understand how she had gotten hookworms because Angel doesn't spend time around other dogs. She mostly goes on walks. The veterinarian explained that hookworms can live in the grass for up to two months. Dogs pick them up on their paws while walking and become infected when they lick their feet. I had no idea something that simple could make a dog so sick.

At the same time, Angel's limp continued to get worse. X-rays and blood work showed no signs of cancer or any other serious illness, which was a huge relief. The veterinarian found only a small amount of arthritis that was normal for her age. They believed she had injured her knee, and her hip was also out of alignment.

Watching her struggle was heartbreaking. She was in tremendous pain, and I felt like I was running from one veterinarian to another trying to find answers. Every veterinarian had a different opinion, and every visit seemed to bring another medication or another treatment. I wasn't looking for a miracle. I just wanted my dog to feel better.

I eventually found a holistic veterinarian, something I honestly didn't know existed. We started Angel on herbal supplements, and she also received acupuncture. In addition, she was prescribed a liquid anti-inflammatory medication to help manage her pain. I also found a wonderful chiropractor who helped with her adjustments. The chiropractor was excited when I told her I was learning energy healing and even let me borrow her red-light therapy wand for several weeks at no charge after another clinic had charged me $40 for only a few minutes of treatment.

The medications became another challenge. I ordered some of them through Chewy because they were much less expensive, but getting prescriptions approved and transferred turned into a nightmare. It seemed like I was constantly on the phone between the veterinarians and Chewy trying to get everything straightened out. There were days when it felt like I spent more time dealing with medications than actually caring for Angel.

I also bought anti-inflammatory chews, probiotics, and other supplements to give her every opportunity to heal. Because jumping can be hard on a dog's joints, I bought small pet steps for the couch so she wouldn't have to jump up and down. At first she barely used them because she wasn't feeling well, but I hoped they would help protect her joints as she recovered.

Before I learned Prograna, I regularly brought Angel into my Medicine Room through Shamanic Healing. One night she cried almost the entire night because she was in so much pain. I honestly thought I might be facing one of the hardest decisions any pet owner has to make.

During one healing session, I asked her, "Are you ready to go?"

Her answer surprised me.

"No... I'll let you know."

The peace I felt in that moment is difficult to describe. I realized I didn't have to make that decision for her. She would let me know when the time came.

Not long afterward, I completed my Prograna training and began working with Angel every day. I continued her medications, herbal supplements, chiropractic care, acupuncture, and Shamanic Healing while adding Prograna to her daily routine.

Slowly, I started seeing little changes.

One day she pulled away from me while I was giving her the liquid medication. A few days later, she stopped at the stairs, looked back at me almost as if she was saying, "Watch this," and ran up the stairs. I couldn't believe it.

Before long, she started climbing the little pet steps to get on the couch again. She went back to sitting in her favorite spot by the front window, something she hadn't done in months. She wanted treats after her walks again and even started playing one of her favorite little games by refusing to put her head through her harness right away. It always puts a smile on my face because I know she's feeling like herself again.

My daughter and I decided to take Angel to a doggy bakery and have her picture taken in one of those old-fashioned photo booths. We were not sure what the future would bring, so we wanted to make some special memories together. We spent the afternoon walking along the Beltline, visited the doggy bakery, and enjoyed watching Angel explore somewhere new. Even though she was still recovering, you could tell she was happy just being with us.

Today, as I write this on July 18, 2026, Angel is doing so much better. She still has a slight limp once in a while, but she runs up and down the stairs, climbs her little pet steps onto the couch, sits by the front window watching the neighborhood, asks for treats after her walks, and enjoys life again.

Looking back, I truly believe Angel improved because we never gave up. She received excellent veterinary care, chiropractic care, herbal supplements, medications, acupuncture, Shamanic Healing, and Prograna. Every part of her journey mattered.

Most of all, Angel reminded me that our animals are constantly communicating with us. Sometimes we just have to slow down enough to listen.

I am incredibly grateful that she told me, "No... I'll let you know." Those few words gave me hope when I needed it most, and today I am thankful that she is still here, enjoying life one day at a time with our family.
